G'Day!
My name's Peter, and I am the host of this website, as well as a devoted husband, father, reader, sports enthusiast, chess player, and IT consultant. I'm grateful to have grown up in the beautiful Diocese of Wollongong, on the south coast of the state of New South Wales, Australia.
I've been a Catholic my whole life, brought up in a loving home with three siblings. I attended Catholic primary and high schools and have been graced with wonderful priests and religious who have provided great formation and example in my life. I have some grounding in theology, having completed a Master of Arts (Theological Studies).
My lifelong journey with Catholicism has been winding. At different times I have sought happiness in academic achievements, sporting victories, career advancements, material possessions, goal attainment, and the approval of others - yet none have yielded enduring joy. At other times, I've strained my relationship with God and the church through bad choices and sinful decisions. These deviations only resulted in unhappiness and a sense of something missing.
St Augustine’s words resonate deeply with me: “our heart is restless until it rests in you.” I embrace the Good News wholeheartedly - that God has created us to share in his own blessed life (CCC, 1) and that our purpose is to know and to love God (CCC, 1). This revelation stands as the sole remedy for our insatiable hearts.
At the end of 2023, I decided to move away from my full-time corporate career and commenced working as an independent consultant. One of my aims was to free up time to spend on the most important things in life - my family and faith. I'm still working, but now get to share more of my day with my wife and kids, and in prayer. I've also started volunteering as a Pastoral Care Companion for elderly members of our community, as well as spending some time on Habits for Disciples.
I found it a challenging decision to put this site "out there". The easier path would be to continue to practice my faith privately. However, our faith compels us to broadcast the Good News to the world (CCC, 3), prompting me to create this platform as one small offering towards that end.
